Mayflower Theatre presents:
Summer Family Sessions

Join Mayflower Theatre this summer as they explore all things fun and theatrical. Inspired by upcoming shows and exciting stories, they invite you and your family to create, craft and come together at their Summer Family Sessions.

Mayflower are running 6 different family friendly workshops across the summer holidays all taking place at the Theatre. Take part in 1 session, 2 sessions or all 6!  


Southampton City Art Gallery presents:
Craft with a Cardboard Box: Make a Miniature Art Gallery

Mini art gallery

Suitable for ages: 6+

Live Zoom class

Enjoy a mini online gallery tour and then make your very own hidden art gallery. From the outside an ordinary shoebox… inside your very own masterpieces. But sssshhh! Don’t tell anyone.

Led live by Kate from the Southampton City Gallery Learning Team, this very special workshop includes downloadable resources, step by step instructions and support. Tickets cost just £5 per device used to log on.

2 Day Workshop: You Will Go To The Ball!

Tues 11 – Wed 12 August

Inspired by the world of Cinderella, come and learn some routines ready for the ball and get creative with your own dance moves as you choreograph a dance together. Participants will enjoy a mixture of Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary Dance to explore the story of Cinderella, as well as drama techniques to develop performance and character. You will even get to complete your Arts Award Explore!

2 Day Workshop: Mayflower POP Stars!

Join Mayflower Theatre for this fun 2 day workshop where you will explore the world of pop music, developing performance skills and dance techniques. Participants will create their own choreography as Mayflower Theatre’s very own pop extravaganza. You will even get to complete your Arts Award Explore!

Discover Titanic LIVE Family Session

In this 2 day workshop you will explore the world of shadow puppetry! Getting crafty you will make your own puppets and create a show using drama and movement. You’ll also get to complete your Arts Award Explore!

Join Mayflower for a 2 day workshop where you will learn all about what makes a fantastic production. Explore drama, movement and craft to think about how you can create your own show. Draw costume and set designs, explore what the movement will be like, how you could use lighting and how you put on your best performance ever! This fun and creative workshop will explore all things theatre and you’ll even get to complete your Arts Award Explore!

Craft with a Cardboard Box: Make a Miniature Stage Set

What can you make from a cardboard box? What about this miniature stage set? Create your own magical dioramas, inspired by pictures of places and people in the Southampton City Gallery collection.

Physical theatre has taken the theatre world by storm, come and develop your skills in this 2 day creative workshop. You will explore how you can use movement and drama together with objects and props to tell a story and develop character. Not to be missed!

Do you love theatre and dance? Are you inspired by the likes of Frantic AssemblyDV8 and Gecko? Why not come to this 2 Day workshop where you will explore the world of physical theatre and how you can use movement, theatre and props to explore character and narrative. Devising your own material you will strengthen skills and confidence. This workshop is a great opportunity for aspiring performers, directors and choreographers.

Welsh National Opera presents:
Play Opera

Welcome to Play Opera, Welsh National Opera’s digital family show. In this episode you will meet the WNO Orchestra who will perform a very famous tune from the opera William Tell. There’s also an aria (song) from Gareth, one of our singers, and presenter Ruth creates a song about the Italian composer, Verdi.

Make sure you join in with the singalong and this episodes #WNOChallenge.

Welsh National Opera have recently launched a Youth and Community Hub in Southampton that aims to provide opportunities to young people and local communities.

Welcome to LifeLab’s virtual escape room. Working on your own or in a family team, solve the puzzles, find the answers and help us escape climate change!

Escaping climate change is a subject close to Greta Thunberg’s heart and LifeLab needs you to solve the puzzles to find the missing words from one of her speeches. There are 5 puzzles for you to solve, each one will reveal a number, word or phrase that you will need to unlock the next puzzle. You will need to write down the answers, so that you can solve the final puzzle and fill in the missing blanks of Greta’s speech.

Paper Cutting is a very distinctive visual art of Chinese handicrafts. Its history may date back to the 6th century. Learn about some basic paper folding methods and cut-outs with these resources from the Confucius Institute at the University of Southampton.
