Artswork provided expertise and support to research and then run the pilot.

What’s Next Southampton? was a free arts, fashion and music festival for children, young people and families. The line-up was developed by six young Cultural Connectors aged 17-26 years. They explored what young people want in the city and teamed up with artists and organisations to create a colourful festival.

The festival and research was part of the Connecting Culture project, which was led by University of Southampton and supported by a £75,000 grant from Arts Council England. The project involved Creative Consultation with over 600 children and young people through schools and other settings and child-focused services.

This film, created by City Eye, shares the Cultural Connector’s story and highlights the importance of youth leadership in Southampton.
